Overview of Activities

For disasters occurring inside or outside of Japan, such as the Great East Japan Earthquake that struck on March 11, 2011, the Sumitomo Chemical Group provides recovery support in a variety of ways.
To help victims of disasters return to a normal order of life and enable the affected areas to rebuild as quickly as possible, Sumitomo Chemical will continue to engage in activities that match the needs of local communities.

Main Initiatives to Support Areas Affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake Donated Sumitomo Chemical's insecticide products: Kuji City, Miyako City, Yamada Town, Otsuchi Town, Kamaishi City and Ofunato City in Iwate as well as Kesennuma City, Ishinomaki City, Higashimatsushima City, Tagajo City, Natori City and Watari Town in Miyagi Dispatched employee volunteers to the affected areas: Otsuchi Town, Kamaishi City and Ofunato City in Iwate as well as Shiogama City in Miyagi Participated in the Tohoku Cotton Project: Sendai City, Higashimatsushima City and Natori City in Miyagi Developed a system for renovating farmland damaged by the tsunami: Watari Town in Miyagi Donated relief funds as well as in-kind relief goods: Minamisanriku Town in Miyagi Held sales fairs in Tokyo to sell agricultural and processed food products from agricultural high schools in Fukushima Prefecture: Aizubange Town, Iwaki City, Kagamiishi Town, Minamisoma City, Fukushima City and Kitakata City in Fukushima Participated in the Coastal Forest Restoration Project in Miyagi Prefecture: Watari Town
