What is the High Performance Lighting Project?

The High Performance Lighting Project was a collaborative UK R&D project involving Cambridge Display Technology Ltd. (CDT)新しいウィンドウで開きます a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Chemical.

The aim of the project was to demonstrate the potential of polymer OLED lighting through the development of high efficiency and low cost device structures and processes, novel driver designs and luminaire concept designs.

Other partners in the project included Tridonic (a provider of lighting management solutions), Pilkington (a glass manufacturer) and Durham University. It was part funded by the UK government's Technology Strategy Board(*), and ran from November 2010 to April 2013.

(*)Technology Strategy Board is the UK's innovation agency. It was set up in 2007 as the UK government‐funded independent body. Its goal is to accelerate economic growth by stimulating and supporting business-led innovation.

Key results from the High Performance Lighting Project

High quality 152x152mm2 tiles (color 3500K), incorporated into a potential luminaire design and powered by a novel driving scheme with low profile form factor were developed within the project.

High efficiency lighting tiles with efficacy of up to 42lm/W were achieved using a low cost structure and process

  • High performance, low cost ITO free anode design developed
  • The device structure was optimized and incorporated optical outcoupling technology to maximize the efficiency
  • The process was optimized to provide reproducibly high performance using a low cost slot die coater
