The Fine Chemicals Research Laboratory was re-organized in
June 2003 by separating a part of the Organic Synthesis
Research Laboratory, one of Sumitomo Chemicals corporate
research laboratories. Beginning with the synthesis of
dye-stuffs, the Companys fine chemicals research
has a long history and has developed various technologies
to meet the changing needs of the times. The Laboratory
aspires to become a new research institute specializing
in "Synthetic Specialty Chemicals" based on
advanced organic synthesis technologies.
The Laboratory is also exploring new business fields that
will grow to be core businesses in the future. Energy-related
research that fully utilizes fine chemical synthesis technologies
is an example of such forward-looking thinking.
We are actively engaged
in the development of high performance polymer additives,
custom synthesis based on our own technologies, new memory
materials and industrialization of core products, as well
as constantly pursuing improvements.
Development of high performance
additives
The additives we have developed are used in various resin products with diverse end uses. We are continuing our endeavors to conduct performance evaluation, develop new applications and create more high-functionality additives.
Custom synthesis of
pharmaceuticals
We are developing synthetic methods to produce pharmaceutical intermediates in competitive ways by fully utilizing our organic synthesis capabilities.
In addition, such key new technologies as asymmetric catalyst, coupling catalyst and selective amide method are also being studied.
