The Petrochemical Research Laboratory as the polymer center of Sumitomo Chemical, is conducting a wide range of research on many kinds of polymers — from polyolefins and polymer alloys to synthetic rubbers. They are also engaged in research work for the improvement and development of catalysts and processes in order to upgrade the performance properties of polymers, reduce manufacturing cost, and develop new products or new polymer grades by using sophisticated technologies for material design and physical property evaluation, together with technical services for customers' satisfaction.
The research group in charge of materials development in the Petrochemicals Research Laboratory cooperates with R&D groups involved with synthetic rubbers and catalyst development, elastmers, alloys, and functional resins as well as with our Plastics Technical Center.
Development and improvement of
plastics CAE technologies
We have developed CAE technologies applicable to various kinds of plastics. They are used to optimize processing conditions, evaluate the properties of plastic products and further improve the technologies relevant to plastic processing.
Development of high-performance
polymer materials
To better serve the diversified needs of the market and explore higher value-added applications, we have placed great emphasis on mastering advanced material design technology and precise analytical/physical property evaluation methods. The Laboratory is also engaged in developing new polymer materials with higher performance and higher functionality.
