The Environment Health Science Laboratory evaluates possible
impacts of our products on human health and environment
by using the latest scientific knowledge as well as state-of-the-art
technologies. The Laboratory also serves as one of the
Companys primary centers on life science research
in collaboration with our Genomic Science Laboratories.
By quickly introducing a cutting-edge technology, such
as toxico-genomics (safety evaluation of chemical substance
based on gene movement), and conducting function analysis
of genes by studying gene-damaged mice jointly with an
outside venture company, the Laboratory has strengthened
our life science studies and accelerated the progress
of research in this field.

 |
| The safety assessment of chemical substances is one important area of interdisciplinary research at our Company. To evaluate toxicity in various mammals, pharmacological action, environmental impact, and physical and chemical properties, the Laboratory utilizes a variety of information resources and technologies extending across a broad range of life sciences. |

Computer simulation on the
environmental behavior of
chemical substances
|
 |

|
The Laboratory is working on research to lessen the environmental load of chemical substances by, for example, making computer-aided predictions of the state and mobility of a given chemical substance in the environment from its chemical structure and physical and chemical properties. |

Digital image processing of cancer
cells by the pharmacological specimen image analysis system (IPAP)
|
 |

|
Research on safety is powerfully supported by IPAP, which is capable of detecting even a small change by means of quantified pharmacological history testing, a quantitative evaluation method. |
