As the Company's advanced materials development center, the Tsukuba Research Laboratory is engaged in developing a variety of new, high-functionality materials, with widespread applications in optical and electronic devices and growing use in information technology and energy-related fields. At the same time, the Laboratory places emphasis on the development of technologies for organic, inorganic, and polymer synthesis, analysis, and simulation, which are indispensable to the creation of sophisticated new materials. R&D accomplishments at Tsukuba are expected to create new core businesses for Sumitomo Chemical by combining four essential technologies: material design (simulation), synthesis/processing, structural analysis and evaluation of physical properties.
The Tsukuba Research Laboratory is involved with a broad range of organic, inorganic and polymer materials, and in addition to researching materials, the Laboratory is also engaged in the development of components and products that capitalize on the materials it develops. We are promoting further cross-disciplinary exchange among our researchers to enable them to combine materials from disparate fields to develop proprietary materials that competitors cannot hope to match.
