Measures to Promote Customer Satisfaction

Sumitomo Chemical has acquired ISO9001 (2000 version) certification for product quality management for all its Works in an effort to enhance customer satisfaction. As a result, complaints from customers about product quality have been decreasing year after year. Currently, we are working to further enhance customer satisfaction with the following systems.

Introducing a System to Enhance Communication with Customers

In order to respond to a variety of requests from customers, we introduced a quality information system (QIS) in fiscal 2002 and also a logistics-quality information system (L-QIS) in fiscal 2007.
In addition, at the end of fiscal 2008, we started the practical operation of SuCCESS. Under this system, we manage information about our products and raw materials centrally to formulate GHS*1compliant MSDS*2 drafts and MSDS Plus*3 for green procurement, further strengthening communication with our customers.

  • *1 Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS)
  • *2 Material safety data sheet (MSDS): A data sheet containing information necessary for the safe handling of chemical products (properties, handling methods, safety measures, etc.)
  • *3 MSDS Plus: A form developed by the Joint Article Management Promotion consortium (JAMP) to convey information on the substances subject to regulatory control contained in chemical products.

Building a Cross-Industry Product Information Communication System

Companies that belong to every industry along the supply chain from the upstream to the downstream voluntarily got together in September 2006 and organized the Joint Article Management Promotion consortium (JAMP) aimed at establishing a system that assures the supply of safe and satisfactory products to society.
Sumitomo Chemical has been actively cooperating in the creation of an information distribution system that uses forms such as the JAMP MSDSplus and AIS. Going forward, we will utilize this system to promote the more prompt and precise distribution of information about our products to our customers.

Product Safety Measures

Ensuring the safety of the products we supply to our customers is one of the Company's top priorities; Sumitomo Chemical recognizes that it is also an essential part of corporate social responsibility as well as being vitally important to the operation of a sound business. Even before the introduction of the Product Liability Law, Sumitomo Chemical, recognizing the importance of product safety activities, promoted the systematic implementation of measures to ensure product safety through such activities as product development, production, and sales.

The Company places special importance on implementation of the following measures.

  1. Maintaining up-to-date Company regulations that ensure systematic implementation of product safety activities
  2. Education that communicates the importance of product safety activities and how to carry out such activities
  3. Providing customers with product manuals, warning labels, and MSDS to ensure the safe handling of products
  4. Risk assessments and reduction measures for new products, taking into consideration the impact on human health and the environment as well as accident prevention
  5. Quality controls sufficient to ensure safety
  6. Participation in the industry's product safety activities
