Practicing Good Corporate Citizenship
In fulfilling its responsibilities as a corporate citizen, Sumitomo Chemical takes a very sincere approach to its initiatives on a number of issues. As the cornerstone of its management philosophy, the company places the utmost importance on abiding by laws and regulations as well as complying with its own internal rules. In 2003, Sumitomo Chemical took active measures to further reinforce its compliance management efforts, including the establishment of a Compliance Committee under the Sumitomo Chemical Charter for Business Conduct.
As a company that handles a wide variety of chemical products, it is critically important for Sumitomo Chemical to carefully consider issues related to the environment, safety, and health. The company has therefore placed high management priority on "Responsible Care" activities, which refer to the company's voluntary efforts to ensure that its products comply with its standards for environmental protection, safety, and health across all stages of their life cycle.
In addition, the company hopes to be more actively involved in initiatives that will benefit society at large as well as the communities in which it operates.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has increasingly been drawing public attention. Sumitomo Chemical pledges to continue actively participating in the community in order to gain the further trust and support of all stakeholders, including business partners, shareholders, investors, and local communities.
