Excellence Award in Corporate Value Improvement Awards
Sumitomo Chemical was selected as an Excellence Award recipient in the 6th Corporate Value Improvement Awards (FY2017) hosted by the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE).The Corporate Value Improvement Awards are given to companies, from among all the companies listed on the TSE (about 3,500 companies), which have achieved high corporate value and consistently adopt management practices aimed at improving corporate value through those initiatives that duly consider capital cost and other investor concerns.
The Deputy Chief's Award (by Minister of Foreign Affairs) of Japan SDGs Award
Sumitomo Chemical was granted the Deputy Chief’s Award (by Minister for Foreign Affairs) as a recipient of the first Japan SDGs Award. The Japan SDGs Award is conferred by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Promotion Headquarters, a Cabinet body composed of all Ministers, to those companies and organizations which have demonstrated outstanding initiatives toward achieving the United Nations' SDGs adopted in 2015.
Award of Excellence, Nikkei Annual Report Awards 2017
Sumitomo Chemical’s integrated report, Annual Report 2017, received an Award of Excellence in the Nikkei Annual Report Awards 2017, after winning the same award in 2016. Nikkei Annual Report Awards is an awards program that Nikkei Inc. has organized every year since 1998 for the purpose of raising the quality and encouraging the publication of annual reports published by Japanese corporations. For fiscal 2017, which was the 20th awards program, 100 companies applied, and one company was selected for the First Prize, four for the Second Prize, two for the Special Award, and fifteen for the Award of Excellence.
CDP "Climate A List 2018"
Sumitomo Chemical has been named by CDP's highest-rated "Climate A List 2018" as a company demonstrating excellent performance in responding to the issue of climate change.
In CDP's survey of 2018, the Climate A List has named 126 global companies and 20 Japanese companies selected from among about 7,000 companies that disclosed information on their climate change–related activities.
Sumitomo Chemical Ranked 6th among 22 Companies Globally (and 1st among Japanese Companies) in the CDP Chemical Sector Report
In the CDP Chemical Sector Report (fiscal 2017 edition), in which CDP evaluated the efforts to combat climate change of 22 of the world’s largest publicly-listed chemical companies, Sumitomo Chemical ranks 6th globally and 1st among Japanese companies. CDP, an international non-profit organization, is a leader in promoting corporate disclosure of environmental information, including initiatives to combat climate change.
Top Prize in JIPS Awards
Sumitomo Chemical received the Top Prize in the JIPS Awards (Japan Initiative of Product Stewardship Awards) sponsored by the Japan Chemical Industry Association. (JCIA). The awards, which are part of JCIA’s efforts to promote JIPS activities, confer a Top Prize, Award of Excellence, and Honorable Mention Awards based on the number of annual disclosures of safety summaries (disclosures of safety information for the risk-based management of chemical substances). Sumitomo Chemical had 23 safety summary disclosures, the most of any Japanese Chemical company.
