Pharmaceuticals Sector
Sumitomo Chemical's pharmaceutical business originated from organic synthesis, a technology
that was mainly used for dyestuffs until Sumitomo used the technology to make Japan's first
synthetic medicines. Sumitomo Chemical's pharmaceutical business is operated by Sumitomo
Pharmaceuticals Company which mainly manufactures and sells prescription drugs, and Nihon
Medi-physics Co., Ltd., which manufactures and sells diagnostics.
