Sumitomo successfully completed its GMP manufacturing of an even longer gRNA of 130 mer length.

Sumitomo Chemical is pleased to announce the successful manufacturing of gRNA for genome editing with 82.5% purity in its Oita Plant (Oita City, Japan). The gRNA is longer than standard gRNAs and has 130 mer length. Chemical synthesis of long RNAs with chemical modifications is a challenging task; with its unique technologies, Sumitomo has overcome this daunting hurdle and achieved high purity (greater than 80%).

While typical gRNAs used for CRISPR-Cas9 is around 100 mer, recent technological advancements call for even longer gRNAs. With this successful manufacturing, Sumitomo has demonstrated its ability in manufacturing long gRNAs with high purity. Sumitomo is committed to contributing towards the application of genome editing to therapeutics and endeavors to improve its capability for manufacturing longer length gRNAs at higher purity.
