    Biomass resource reduces
    CO2 emissions

    We use a variety of biomass ethanol, including plant-based ethanol which has an excellent CO2 reduction effect. We offer environmentally-friendly olefin and derivatives that contributes greatly to reducing CO2 emissions compared to conventional fossil-based polyolefin.

Ethanol-based olefin and derivatives: FAQ

What is the timescale for the project?

In June of 2025, we set up a pilot plant.
We are working on the validation and scale-up of manufacturing technology for converting renewable ethanol into propylene, while also working on licensing marketting.

Can you supply samples?

We are open to discussing the provision of pilot-plant samples of ethanol-derived propylene and polyolefin products made using propylene. Please feel free to inquire about sample availability.

How is it sold?

When selling to customers, we use the mass balance approach based on third-party certification, and sell certain final products to which a percentage of sustainable ethanol-based raw material is assigned.

What about traceability?

In order to provide sustainable products with reliable quality, we plan to acquire third-party certification assuring raw material traceability. We are also looking into the application of blockchain technology for building traceability system.

What about CO2 emission reduction?

We use an original Sumitomo Chemical carbon footprint (CFP) calculation system to visualize lifecycle assessment (LCA), and are currently validating the CO2 emission reduction effect.
