Sumitomo Chemical Endorses the AEPW's Message, "We Forge Ahead"

May. 1, 2020

Sumitomo Chemical expresses its supports for “We Forge Ahead,” the video message published by the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW), a global initiative to solve the plastic waste problem.

AEPW, launched on January 16, 2019, is a non-profit organization comprised of global companies associated with the product lifecycle, ranging from plastic manufacturing to waste disposal. To minimize and obviate plastic waste in the environment, AEPW will invest $1.5 billion in total over the next 5 years to accelerate four initiatives: building social infrastructure, accelerating innovation, education/training and promoting dialogue with other related institutions, and cleaning up the environment. Sumitomo Chemical is participating in AEPW as a founding member. Recognizing plastics as useful materials that support a sustainable society, Sumitomo Chemical is working on the implementation of plastic resource recycling through the development of chemical recycling technologies, to solve the plastic waste problem.

The message, "We Forge Ahead" delivered by AEPW, encourages us to continue to take on challenges to solve the plastic waste problem in tandem with governments, companies and local communities, despite the extremely difficult situation we face amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In line with the Sumitomo Spirit, "Our business must benefit society at large, not just our own interests," Sumitomo Chemical will contribute to the resolution of various social issues, including the plastic waste problem, by offering innovative technologies and products, and will continue to generate economic and social value.
